Raw Foods Advice
- By: Paul Zayer, 2008-03-26
Everybody wants to take better care of themselves and that means making sure that they are eating the best foods that they can. When it is time to picking healthy ingredients, raw foods are known to be the right option, but you may be surprised to learn that eating a diet rich in raw foods isn't as simple as going to the food store and buying some fruits and vegetables.
When you want to begin eating foods in their natural state, consider where that food is coming from. Before they arrive at the store, most vegetables that you buy at your local grocers have to travel a very long distance. They are covered with preservatives in order to keep them tasting and looking their best. Before they are even picked they are in contact with chemicals in the form of pesticides.
There are a few things you have to do if you don't want to ingest all of these unwanted additives. The first thing to do is to buy organic raw foods. These are grown in such a way that no chemicals are used in the growing process. There are also no preservatives used so that you know for certain exactly what you are eating. You are having all the best parts of the food without any unnatural addition to it.
An alternative to buying organic fruits and vegetables is to grow your own. Many families have grown and eaten their own raw foods for many years. This is not just an inexpensive way to eat healthy but it also gives you the chance to get out in the summer sun and do some gardening. Imagine when you pick your own carrots or lettuce how rewarding it will be. This is truly what raw foods are all about; free of any additives and as fresh as can be.
If fruits and vegetables aren't your favourite food group, think of going into the world of sushi. In almost every town and city, there is a sushi bar accessible. Sushi has become one of the most well-liked uncooked foods there is. Some persons can't imagine ingesting raw fish but it's tasty and at least worth to be tried. It really is one of the tastiest and more nutritious foods there is.
I believe that it's always a good thing to have foods that you not only enjoy but are also good for you. Think of the origin when you are buying raw foods. There are things that need to be consumed shortly after purchase and that is the case of fruits and vegetables. It's a good idea to buy a few items every couple of days so the food doesn't go bad before being consumed.
So, as you can see eating uncooked foods can be quite a change in your food habits. But in my opinion it is worth the change and later on you will reap all the benefits and be glad you did the transition.

HERBAL MEDICINE - the alternative
An unorthodox sort of drug known as herbal drug has get to stay. All over the world, a lot of people now resort to treating various bedridden, using herbal (otherwise called herbal medicine) mixtures of all kinds. Herbal drug is an increasingly favorite sort of unorthodox therapy in the United States. A 1997 survey estimated that 12. 1 percent of adults in the United States had used a herbal drug in the previous 12 months (as compared with 2. 5 percent in 1990), resulting in out-of-pocket payments of $5. 1 billion. 1 Among those who had used herbal drug, 15. 1 percent had seen an alternative-medicine practitioner, with a sum of 10.5 million authority visits, 19. 8 percent of which had been completely or partially covered by policy.
The World Health Organization estimates that 65%-80% of the world's population use 'traditional medicine' as their primary form of health care. The use of herbal medicine, the dominant form of medical treatment in developing countries, has been increasing in developed countries in recent years. Assessment of the safety and efficacy of these medicines is an important issue for the health professions. We focus here on the safety of these preparations; the issue of their efficacy is not addressed. A classification of potential adverse effects associated with these preparations is proposed, and we encourage the reporting of any adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Herbal medicine, in which plants (dried or in extract form) are used as therapeutic substances, is one of a number of practices encompassed by the term "complementary and alternative medicine" (CAM).
Recent studies have highlighted the extent to which CAM is used in Australia. A 1993 survey of 3004 South Australians by McLennan et al. found that, in the previous year, 48.5% had used at least one form of CAM preparation and 20.3% of all respondents had visited at least one alternative practitioner. Herbal medicine accounted for approximately 26% of CAM use in this survey. Therefore, results for the use of CAM were similar in a survey of 325 patients attending a Sydney teaching hospital emergency department in 1994, and only 35.5% of users had informed their medical practitioner about any use of CAM. Of the women who had borne children, 12 (14.5%) had taken one to 18 herbal preparations during pregnancy, and eight of 34 (23.5%) patients under 16 had been given between one and eight herbal preparations. Herbal medicine has been proven to combat high blood pressure, allergies and cancer.

Is one apple a day enough to keep the doctor away?
- By: Noel Swanson, 2008-03-26
These days we are exposed to free radicals on daily basis. We are suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, stress, and more things that affect us even though we want to have a healthy lifestyle. Baby boomers are expected to spend a lot of money on anti-aging products. They want more energy, better sleep, relief from aches and pain and have a fit and healthy body.
So, has one apple a day been enough to stay healthy? The reality is that most people don't even eat a single apple a day. The FDA recommends that we eat at least 4 to 6 portions of fruits a day but, unfortunately, fruits and vegetables are not part of most people's diet. They think is too expensive, time consuming, and an unwelcome burdensome change. But if we consume that recommended daily allowance of fruits we will be able to receive the antioxidants, fiber, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that our body needs in order to stay healthy.
MonaVie is a synergy of 19 different fruits that includes the acai berry from Brazil that has the highest antioxidant activity of any fruit or vegetable. Among other fruits MonaVie has pears, camu camu, cranberry, bilberry, acerola cherry, kiwi fruit, passion fruit, banana, nashi pear, prunes, purple grapes, wolfberry, pomegranate, purple grapes, white grape, lychee fruit, aronia berry, blue berry and apricot. So, by drinking one ounce in the morning and one ounce at night you will have the required amount or more of the FDA's recommended allowance of fruit.
And remember, it is never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle that will help you avoid life-shortening conditions like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimers and more. The powerful concentration of antioxidants, vitamin, fibers, and minerals in MonaVie will allow you to get back your health and energy.
Check out Sara Chevere's website for additional great information, articles and videos about the acai berry and MonaVie. Powered by Internet Marketing. <
The relationship between Anxiety and Food

According to the researchers of Harvard Medical School, there is relationship between Angst and food.
It has been proved that those who suffer from Angst or depression suffer from a deficiency of Vitamani B6 or peridoxin. B6 is useful for processing protein, fats and for the functioning of the brain.
Lots of B6 are found in vegetables, orange, foodgrains, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, guavas etc. Fish containing Omega 3 fatty acids like mackarel and sardines also can be incorporated in the diet and this will reduce depression. <

Beaming health with neem

- By: Dr.savitha Suri, 2008-03-24
Neem which belongs to family Meliaceae , has a botanical name Azadirachta Indica. It grows in tropical and semi tropical regions and is widely found in Burma, India and Pakistan. This is a very fast growing, ever green tree which reaches the height of 15 to 20 meters.
Neem is known for its immeasurable medicinal properties and is used as a main ingredient in many home remedies. Commending the medicinal properties of neem, numerous sanskrit names have been coined by our ayurveda acharyas . Few of them are mentioned below.
It is known as Nimba as it boosts health
It is praised as Pichumarda as it destroys skin diseases.
As it is used to ward off evil powers that harm our body , it is known as Arishta
Chemical composition of neem:
Neem tree has numerous medicinal properties by virtue of its chemical compounds. Seeds of the Neem tree contain the highest concentration of Azadirachtin. Apart from Azadirachtin , salannin, gedunin, azadirone, nimbin, nimbidine, nimbicidine, nimbinol, etc are other important liminoids of neem.
Uses of neem in horticulture:
Neem has been the most traditionally used plant in India , Pakistan and Africa to protect grains and cereals from pests. Fresh neem leaves are mixed with grains and cereals before storing. A paste of fresh neem leaves is rubbed against the wall of large mud bins or gunny bags in which the grains and cereals are stored. Some times a thick layer of dry neem leaves are spread over grains. Neem oil extracted from seeds acts as best biopesticide. Jute sacks treated with neem oil or extracts of neem are used to store food grains. Neem oil is a very cheap and effective house hold pesticide to protect grains and legumes from pests. Neem is being used to protect stored roots and tubers from potato moth.
Azadirachtin is available in high concentration in neem seeds. It is used as “botanical pesticide” which is environmentally friendly. It prevents insects from feeding on plants and regulates the growth of insects. Neem extracts do not harm the insects like bees, spiders and butterflies which help in pollination.
Medicinal properties of Neem:
The Neem tree has many medicinal uses. The chemical compounds present in neem have anti-inflammatory , antiarthritic ,antipyretic ,hypoglycaemic , Antifungal, spermicidal, antimalarial, antibacterial and Diuretic properties. Flower, leaves, bark and seeds of neem are used in home remedies and in preparation of medicines. Bark of neem acts as antipyretic and helps to reduce fever. Flowers are used in intestinal disorders. Juice from fresh leaves is very helpful in treating skin diseases, wounds and obesity. Oil from neem seeds is used in arthritis, skin diseases and muscular sprains. Neem is very effective in treating gum diseases.
The neem is proved to be beneficial in treating skin diseases because of its antibiotic, antifungal and blood purifying properties. According to ayurveda principles vitiated Kapha and pitta cause skin diseases. Neem pacifies vitiated kapha and pitta, thus helps to cure skin ailments. It promotes wound healing as it is antibacterial and astringent. In psoriasis it reduces itching, irritation, roughness of skin and heals the psoriatic patches. In same way it heals eczema too. It reduces infection and inflammation of acne. Neem helps to maintain the health of scalp skin and prevents dandruff.
Due to its detoxifying properties it helps to keep organ systems healthy, especially circulatory, digestive, respiratory and urinary systems.
Scientific studies have revealed that neem reduces blood sugar level. Hence its usage supports diabetic patients to keep their blood sugar level in control. Diabetes impairs blood circulation and causes gangrene in lower extremities. Numerous scientific researches have high lightened the role of neem in keeping circulatory system healthy, thus reducing the chances of gangrene. Recent studies have shown that neem reduces blood cholesterol level and keeps the heart healthy.
Home remedies with neem
Apply Crushed fresh leaves of neem on acne. In case of body acne mix fine paste of fresh neem leaves in little water and smear this mixture on back, chest and shoulders.
In itching, application of neeem oil on affected areas helps. Boil neem leaves in a big bowl of water and mix this in bathing water. This reduces body itch.
Massaging neem oil to scalp removes head lice and prevents formation of dandruff.
Mix dry neem powder, shikakai and amla in water and apply this as pack on head . This pack has to be kept for 45 minutes and washed off later. This prevents hair loss and dandruff. Fresh neem leaves can also be used instead of dry neem powder.
A freshly prepared paste of turmeric, neem and sesame seeds is recommended in ayurveda for fungal infection between toes. Fumigating the house with smoke of dried neem leaves in evenings for 1-2 minutes is an excellent ayurvedic method to keep mosquitoes away.
Neem in House hold
Neem flower pachidi is prepared from roasted neem flower and is a famous dish in South India which is prepared during ugadi. Neem flower rasam improves digestion and is very popular in Andhra and Tamilnadu.
Extract of skin friendly neem is being used in manufacturing bathing soaps, hair gels, body lotions etc. These products are gaining popularity in market.

How to Lower Cholesterol - Food with High Cholesterol

- By: Noel Swanson, 2008-03-18
If you are worried about getting high cholesterol or already have high cholesterol, you will be probably interested in food that is high in cholesterol and how it will affects you. You may want to know as these food will have an impact on your cholesterol level.
Of course, many of the foods that are high in fat are also high in cholesterol. This includes a lot of the greasy and fatty foods that many people are fond of picking up from their favorite fast food joint. Many greasy and heavy foods not only contain high cholesterol levels, but also have a high amount of saturated fat. Saturated fat, the type of fat that is found in many animal products, will raise the level of your LDL (or bad) cholesterol. If you eat too many foods that are high in saturated fat and cholesterol, your own cholesterol levels are also going to go up.
It is important to know that high cholesterol food is not a problem by itself. It is more important to know how much saturated fat that was eaten. It is important because the liver will produce more bad cholesterol and triglycerides in order for the saturated fat to be digested.
Understand this, you will now know that food that are cholesterol free does not mean that is will make a huge difference to your cholesterol levels, especially if the product is high in saturated fat, the live will continue to make the bad cholesterol to digest the saturated fats.
Coconut oil is a good example in this category. Technically, coconut oil is consider a vegetable oil that is free of cholesterol. Thus coconut can be label as "cholesterol free" or "low cholesterol". For those who don;t know, coconut oil is extremely high in saturated fat. The level of saturated fat is so high that it will very likely to increase the level of cholesterol when take it too often.
So food that are labeled "high cholesterol" would no just mean that it has high level of cholesterol. Instead, it may just contain only substances that will increase the amount of (LDL) cholesterol in our vascular system. And saturated fat is one of them
The following table will give you an idea what's on the label and what does it mean to you. This is to help you with you next shopping trip. - Label with "reduced fat" meant it has 25% lesser fat than "normal label" - Label with "fat free" meant it has less than half of a milligram of fat per serving. - Label with "low fat" meant it has less then 3 grams of fat per serving. - Label with "low cholesterol" has less then 20 milligrams of cholesterol and less then 2 grams of saturated fat. - Label with "cholesterol free" do not contain cholesterol but do watch out the saturated fat level.
If you are looking for particular foods to avoid, watch out for any animal products. Many processed foods, like cookies and pastries, will also have high levels of saturated fats.
My cholesterol level used to be more then 300, I've lower it naturally without medication in 60 days. You can read about how I did it at How to Lower Cholesterol Naturally <
Preventing Hair Loss With The Right Nutrition
- By: Noel Swanson, 2008-03-18
If you are losing your hair right now, don't panic. The most probable reason for that, especially if you're a male, is overabundance of dihydrotestosterone in the skin of your head. This chemical compound is created from testosterone - once this male hormone reaches the follicles, it attaches itself to it and changes into DHT. The bad thing is that DHT is hardly beneficient and is largely responsible for your hair loss. It tightens the muscles in your scalp, increasing the pression on the follicles and limits the blood circulation there, preventing hair from being nourished properly.
This was the bad news. The good news is that you are not doomed. The scientists know much more about mechanisms of hair loss and they have devised a set of nutritional supplements which can stop or even reverse the process.
Weapons Against DHT
The most important nutrient for your hair is undoubtedly zinc. It can be found on various types of food, including wheat germ, egg yolks, or red meat, but still a lot of people do not intake enough zinc to keep their hair safe. The main role of zinc is relaxing muscles and make them less prone to stress. This helps the organism remain safe from DHT-induced effects (tightened muscles on your head). Just remember to avoid overdosing zinc - a daily intake of more than 12 mg of zinc ends in reduced iron absorption and increased risk of anemia.
Biotin is another nutrient which is necessary to stop the progress of balding and revert the damages done by DHT. Biotin, a member of a large B complex group of vitamins, supports proper nourishing of hair follicles and increase hair repair rate. It can be found in abundance in such foods as kidney, liver, milk or cooked eggs. Unlike zinc, it can't be overdosed. However, remember that most foods which contains biotin are incredibly rich in fat, so if you decide to eat them with no restraints, you may cure balding, but at the price of fifty extra pounds!
Proteins are a necessary part of our nutrition. Among other good things, they play an important role in keeping our hair thick and strong. No wonder that they are a common add-on to many shampoos - nourishing one's hair with proteins can increase their volume by even 50%! While they cannot cause any hair regrowth, they are essential in keeping those strands which are left in good condition.
Another important compound that strengthens our hair is Vitamin A, also known as carotene or retinol. While you have probably heard about it is a perfect skin moisture regulator, retinol is also able to prevent a balding process from occurring or make it stop if it has already started. Sebum, if secreted in the right amount, can prevent the damages caused by DHT. Vitamin A can be found in many types of food, most notably in vegetables and fish oils. Overdosing is possible and may cause some serious health problems, but if only you keep the intake within reason, this is not very likely to happen.
We mustn't forget about another important vitamin: Vitamin E. It maintains proper blood circulation in scalp, stopping all DHT attempts to reduce the amount of nutrients arriving to the follicles. There's no problem with intaking enough Vitamin E, as it can be easily found in a number of foods, most notably leafy greens and soybeans, as well as in many vegetable oils. The real catch is that Vitamin E can be easily overdosed, increasing the pressure in the cardiovascular system.
The role of nutrients in the prevention of the balding process is well-known and keeping the right amount of all abovementioned products in your diet should generally be enough to prevent hair loss. The problem is that in most cases it is hardly possible for a normal diet to accommodate for all those nutrients while keeping your blood pressure and weight at a stable level. That's why most people would do much better if they chose to use a proper nutritional supplement instead of trying to create an ideal diet. And fortunately for them, the solution is right at hand. A major producer of anti-hair loss products, ProFollica, offers an excellent nutritional supplement that contains all necessary nutrients in right doses to make them both effective and safe. To make everything better, the ProFollica system contains much more than just the nutrients and check it yourself.

Sources of Vitamin B3
- By: Andrew Caxton, 2008-03-14
This article talks about what Vitamin B3 is, why we need it and available sources of Vitamin B3.
What is Vitamin B3?
Vitamin B3 is a water-soluble vitamin that's part of the Vitamin B complex group. The two basic forms of Vitamin B3 are niacin (nicotinic acid) and niacinamide (nicotinamide). Vitamin B3 is used to make fat from the carbohydrates as well as to process alcohol. Niacin helps to regulate our cholesterol, but niacinamide does not. Vitamin B3 usually works with Vitamin B1 and B2 to release energy from the carbohydrates we consume. They are usually given in a B complex supplement or a multivitamin.
Sources of Vitamin B3
There are different food sources of Vitamin B3 such as fish, peanuts, brewer's yeast, meat and whole grains. Other sources are cooked dried beans, non or low fat milk, cheese, eggs, soybeans and green vegetables. Vegetables should be steamed, baked or used in stir-fry to keep the Vitamin B3 in them. Because it is a water-soluble vitamin and does not stay in our bodies, it's important that we always have enough in our system. Vitamin B3 is added to white flour and since so many things contain white flour, most individuals get enough Vitamin B3 in their normal diet. However, many people choose to take 10-25 milligrams of this vitamin as part of a multivitamin. Although the body doesn't require a large amount of Vitamin B3, without this vitamin our body would be lost. Its ability to release energy our bodies need make it very necessary for your bodies. Reactions from Vitamin B3
The only time large amounts of Vitamin B3 are prescribed is for serious health conditions. Some health issues that may Vitamin B3 may help are osteoarthritis, high triglycerides, acne and high cholesterol. Symptoms of Vitamin B3 deficiency, though rare, are skin rash, loss of appetite, diarrheas, mental changes, digestive and emotional problems and beefy tongue. One disease that can occur from a deficiency of Vitamin B3 is Pellagra. The symptoms of Pellagra are canker sores, dermatitis, inflammation of the mucous membranes, confusion, depression and diarrhea.
Vitamin B3 or Liquid vitamins and minerals supplement are usually safe to take in both forms, however, niacin levels as low as 50-100 mg have caused headaches, flushing and stomach ache in certain individuals. When niacinamide was taken in doses of over 1,000 per day, liver problems have occurred. Other problems that can occur from high levels of Vitamin B3 are gastritis, diabetes, eye damage and high blood levels of uric acid. It's important to always consult with your doctor before you begin to take any kind of supplement. Often people read certain articles about vitamins or symptoms, rush out, buy some supplement, and begin taking it, which can cause more problems.

Deficiency of Vitamin B Complex
- By: Andrew Caxton, 2008-03-15
This article tells you all about the Vitamin B complex group and what each one does. It also gives you sources for these vitamins.
What is Vitamin B Complex?
The Vitamin B Complex group consists of Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, Vitamin B9 or folic acid and folate and Vitamin B12.
Vitamin B Complex is a group of water-soluble vitamins that are all part of the B vitamin group. Each of them has a number behind it as well as having alternate names. In addition, all though they all are similar in certain ways, they each do different things for our bodies. One is needed as much as the next. Vitamin B vitamins are important nutrients that we need for development, growth and numerous bodily functions. They have a large role in the enzyme's activities (proteins) that control the chemical reactions in our body. One of their main roles is in turning our the food we consume into energy and other necessary substances.
B Vitamins are needed to help us avoid many health conditions. Although Vitamin B9 has been said to have a protective effect against certain cancers, there is still much more research to be done before we can be certain that any of the B Vitamins can reduce the risk of cancer. To fully understand the importance of the Vitamin B complex, you need to understand what each of them does for our body.
Why We Need Vitamin B Complex
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and Vitamin B2 riboflavin) help our bodies to produce energy from the food we eat. They also generate the enzymes that control our nerves, muscles and heart. Vitamin B3 (niacin) helps to produce energy in our cells and is important for the maintenance of our skin, digestive system and nervous system. Pantothenic acid or Vitamin B5 promotes normal growth and development from the time we are infants. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) helps to break down protein in our body as well as the production of healthy red blood cells. It is also responsible for the health of our immune system and nervous system. Biotin or Vitamin B7 helps our body to make hormones as well as breaking down the protein and carbohydrates from the foods we eat. Vitamin B9 helps with the production and maintenance of red blood cells as well as DNA. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is very important in our bodies' growth and development, the functions of our nervous system, production of blood cells and helping our body use carbohydrates and folic acid.
Everyone Needs Vitamin B complex
Every one of us need Vitamin B complex in our system, and we also require vitamin c supplements in our body. For instance, pregnant and nursing mothers need more Vitamin B9 than others do. Deficiency in Vitamin B can result in tiredness, anemia, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, depression, muscle cramps, numbness or tingling in the legs and arms, poor growth in children, eczema and birth defects.

Vitamins Are A Must For Good Growth
- By: Andrew Caxton, 2008-03-15
This article discusses the important vitamins we need as well as the best source for these vitamins. It also discusses taking multivitamins.
Take Your Vitamins
All our lives we've heard the phrase, "take your vitamins", but never really understood the importance of vitamins until we became adults, most often with children of our own. Taking the correct amount of vitamins cannot only improve our mental and physical functions, but will help improve the quality of our life. Vitamins can also help improve our immune system so we're better able to resist common illnesses. It's important to decide what method we want to use to consume the daily-required vitamins and stick with our plan.
Sources of Vitamins
We can get our vitamins from two different sources: the foods we eat and supplements such as pills or tablets. Almost all foods have some sort of vitamins in them. If you wish to increase or decrease your intake of a specific vitamin, you can focus on specific foods that are rich in a specific vitamin. For instance, those wishing to increase their intake of Vitamin C would eat oranges or drink orange juice, both of which are rich in Vitamin C. If your goal is Vitamin D, you can increase your intake by eating egg yolks or drinking Vitamin D enriched milk. If you are interested in increasing your intake of specific vitamins, you can do some research to determine which foods are richer in what vitamins. You can then fit those foods into your daily diet.
Supplements
Many people choose to take supplements to ensure they get the vitamins their bodies need. This is not because most people enjoy taking pills. Most individuals are very active in their lifestyles today sometimes barely making time to eat, much less eat a balanced meal. In this day and age of fast food, many people feel more secure knowing if they take a supplement, they are at least getting the daily requirements they need. While this may not be the preferred vitamin intake method for many, it's better than taking the risk with our bodies by not eating correctly. It's important to not overdo with any kind of vitamin, as the side effects could be worse than not taking any vitamins.
Multivitamins
Multivitamins are a combination of most of the most important vitamins combined into one tablet or pill. You can buy certain vitamins in liquid form as well, although these aren't as handy as pill form. Multivitamins are one of the best ways to ensure your body is getting all the required vitamins on a daily basis. In addition to being easier and more benefits of vitamin c, convenient to take one pill rather than numerous pills, it is also more economical than buying numerous bottles of individual vitamins. Multivitamins are a win win situation.

Your Body Do Need the Cholesterol
- By: Noel Swanson, 2008-03-13
There is so many negative vibes being bantered around about cholesterol that people may be misinformed about the importance of cholesterol to the function of your body. Other individuals may not know that there are actually two types of cholesterol, blood cholesterol and dietary cholesterol. Cholesterol is precursor to the sex hormone production; regulate your mood and a defense to stress.
Not many people know that our liver produces cholesterol. And cholesterol can be either beneficial to us or expose us to the risk of heart disease and stroke. We have heard of the bad cholesterol that plaque our vein and artery and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke and the good cholesterol that keep our vascular system healthy. It is important to understand both the "good" and "bad" cholesterol so we can tackle high cholesterol problem via informed lifestyle, diet and exercise changes.
The cholesterol our liver produce are called the blood cholesterol and circulate in our vascular system. While dietary cholesterol are the cholesterol ingested from our food and diet, absorbed by our digestive system into our bloodstream. These are the difference between these 2 category of cholesterol.
The cholesterol that we take in by the foods we eat has less affect on our cholesterol blood rest than our family history, presence of disease such as diabetes, thyroid or kidney disease and also on the lifestyle choices we make such as smoking, our exercise routine, and our body weight.
Foods that are high in trans fatty acids and saturated fat will increase our bad (LDL) cholesterol level when consumed. These trans fatty acid and saturated are found in fatty cut meat, egg yolks, deep fried food etc. However, it is good to increase the level of good (HDL) cholesterol. The good cholesterol keep our vein and artery clean and healthy from the sticky cholesterol plaque that gives us problem. So if you have a choice do cut down or avoid the ingestion of food like breaded / fried chicken, fried fish, french fries, doughnuts, or anything deep fried. Cookies and cakes also contain high level of trans fat.
When lowering our LDL cholesterol level it is better to lower the intake of fat and trans fats rather than to avoid or lower our consumption of dairy products, meat and eggs as these items are nutritionally important to our bodies. It is important to lower our LDL cholesterol level, but equally important to give our bodies adequate amounts of calcium, B-vitamins, protein, iron, and zinc.
Because good cholesterol helps in the breakdown of bad cholesterol in our system and reduces the fatty plaque in our artery, heart and brain, it will be beneficial if we increase the level of the good cholesterol in our body.
Cholesterol, the good one, the bad one are produced by our liver and essential in the proper function of our body, is not all bad. It is only bad when we have too much of the bad ones. The good cholesterol even helps in maintaining a healthy heart and brain.

Ayurvedic Treatment of Diabetes
According to ayurveda, diabetes is a metabolic kapha type of disorder in which diminished functioning of agni leads to a tendency toward high blood sugar. (Ayurveda recognizes 24 forms of the disease commonly classified under Prameha - 4 are due to Vata dosha, 6 are due to Pitta dosha, and 10 are caused by Kapha dosha. The main causes of these diseases are fat, urine, and Kapha buildups due to foods, liquids, lifestyle and others.)
Ayurvedic practitioners attack diabetes using a multiprong approach. First, they address diet modification, eliminating sugar and simple carbohydrates, and emphasizing complex carbohydrates. Protein is limited, since excessive intake can damage the kidneys. Fat is also limited because there is often a deficiency of pancreatic enzymes, making fat digestion difficult. Since many diabetics have autoantibodies, a cleansing program is instituted. Panchakarma is typically used for this purpose. This begins with herbal massages and an herbal steam sauna, followed by fasting to cleanse the body. This is followed by an herbal purge for the liver, pancreas, and spleen. Colon therapy is next, first to cleanse the digestive tract and then to reconstitute the system.
Ayurvedic practitioners also use several herbal preparations for diabetics. Exercise is another cornerstone of ayurvedic treatment of diabetes. Yoga and breathing exercises are traditionally used.
Herbs
The most important herbs for all doshas are shilajit, gudmar turmeric, neem, amalaki, guggul, and arjuna. Turmeric with aloe vera gel (1 to 3 gms./.035 to .1 oz) is best used during the early stages of diabetes for regulating pancreas and liver functions.
1. Juice of bitter melon or bitter gourd (Momordica dioica, Roxb., Karela), or Rose apple (Eugenia Jambos, Linn., Jambu) or two tender leaves of Bilva (Aegle Marmelos, Corr., Bael fruit) and Neem (Melia azadirachta, Ravipriya, or Indian Lilac) may be taken on empty stomach daily. Juice of Jambu should be taken in an ounce quantity twice daily, and that of Karela in 1-1/2 ounce dose daily. Shilajit (Swertia Decussata Nimmo.) is another useful medicine (250 mg as a single dose) should be taken, twice daily with juice of stone apple.
2. Use turmeric. Fill some 00-size capsules with turmeric, and take 2 capsules 3 times a day, a few minutes before meals. Continue this program for up to a month, and then reevaluate your condition. Clinical observation suggests that a person who is insulin dependent will experience a markedly diminished requirement for insulin; the diabetes can often be brought under control.
3. Take 1/2 teaspoon of ground bay leaf and 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, mixed in 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel. Take the mixture twice a day before lunch and dinner.
4. The ayurveda preparation Vasanta Kusumakar Ras, is very good but is extremely costly. Take two grains daily with a tsp. of cream or honey. In certain cases, the said medicine brings down sugar lever quite quickly, hence sugar-levels should be carefully monitored. When sugar has touched its normal range, the dose should be tapered in a graduated manner, and added with 500 mg pill of Chandraprabhavati which is called a 'Poor man's remedy.'
5. Mix and grind seeds of Fenugreek (Methi) 100 gm, turmeric 50gm, Dakhni Mirch (white pepper). Take one teaspoon of this powder with a glass of milk twice daily. Alternately, immerse and soak one teaspoon of fenugreek seed in water. Take this in the morning, with water or with milk.
6. Take twice daily, with powder of rose apple stones (powder of Jambu or Jamun-ki-Guthali).
7. Include decoctions of triphala, fenugreek, musta, arjuna, sandalwood, lodhra, ajwan, gokshura, vidanga, guduchi, haritaki, and chitrak. These may be taken with a small amount of ghee. Gudmar and shilajit are excellent.
8. Amalaki Churna (500mg), Haldi Powder (Turmeric Powder) 500mg and Naag Bhasma (125mg) should be taken with honey, twice daily ( A 12-hourly dose ).
Diet
Follow the kapha-pacifying diet. Avoid excess intake of sweets, carbohydrates, and dairy products. Take more fresh vegetables and bitter herbs. Other useful foods include: roasted or fried barley, corn flour, light, bitter vegetables, barley porridge, ghee, rice, and herbs like gokshura, gudmar, triphala, musta, cardamom, fenugreek, or coriander, mixed with honey. Triphala with amalaki juice can also be used to heal prameha. Barley is the main food to heal urinary diseases. Other ayurvedic methods to heal prameha (diabetes) include strenuous exercises, oil massage, steam, sitz or waist bath, and sprinkling of water and ointment. Dry ginger, cardamom, and sandalwood may be used in baths or taken orally. Gudmar is the best herb for digesting sugar in the pancreas. A combination of gudmar and shilajit is an excellent remedy for diabetes that is often prescribed by Ayurvedic practitioners.
Eliminate all objects that contain sugar from diet, like wheat, rice, potato, sugar, sugar cane and its juice, jaggery , sweet fruits.
Reduce fats, especially butter and ghee from diet.
Take barley soaked in a triphala decoction overnight, then mixed with honey and eaten several times a day.
Orange, and lemon, may be taken as and when needed.
Take bitter melon, in any form, without any fear, and Jamun and powder of its seed.
Take plenty of green vegetables, black gram, soy, fish etc.
Copper Water
Put one cup of water into a copper vessel at night, and drink the water in the morning.
Exercise
Take morning and evening walk
Do Pranayama
Do yoga asanas

Information About Diabetes
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease that occurs when your body doesn't make enough insulin or doesn't use insulin the right way. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body use sugar (glucose) for energy. Because your body has a problem with insulin, your blood sugar builds up. Your body can't use it for energy, average blood glucose levels rise (hyperglycemia) and some of the sugar is urinated out of your body.

Three Types of Diabetes
There are three main types of diabetes. These are:
Type 1 (also called insulin-dependent and previously called juvenile diabetes). Type 1 diabetes develops most often in children and young adults. It is treated with insulin.
Type 2 (also called noninsulin-dependent, or adult-onset). Type 2 diabetes is much more common and usually develops in older adults. It is now being found at younger ages and is even being diagnosed among children and teens.
Gestational (pregnancy-related). Some women develop diabetes during pregnancy. Although it goes away after pregnancy, these women have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
The information about diabetes on this page will focus on Type 2 diabetes.
Top
How Common Is Diabetes?
According to the Centers for Disease Control:
Seventeen million Americans have diabetes. There are 5.9 million Americans who are unaware that they have the disease.
It is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Over 200,000 people die each year of related complications.
Among U.S. adults, diagnosed diabetes increased 49% from 1990 to 2000. Similar increases are expected in the next decade and beyond.
Top
What Causes Type 2 Diabetes?
The most common causes for Type 2 diabetes are poor diet, lack of exercise, and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is something you can acquire. Insulin resistance means that the cells in your body aren't sensitive enough to react to the insulin produced by your pancreas. Because the cells need sugar for fuel, the pancreas works overtime to make more insulin—enough to overcome the insulin resistance and carry sugar into your cells where it can be burned for energy.
No one knows if obesity causes insulin resistance, if insulin resistance causes obesity, or if they develop independently. We do know that insulin resistance is aggravated by obesity—particularly the type where your weight collects around your middle (like an apple). Physical inactivity also aggravates insulin resistance. Eating too much dietary carbohydrate most likely plays a large role in causing insulin resistance.
Over time, the pancreas "wears out" and can no longer pump out enough insulin to overcome the insulin resistance. When this happens, you get Type 2 diabetes.
Top
What Are the Risk Factors for Type 2 Adult Diabetes?
Being more than 20% overweight
Physical inactivity
Having a first degree relative with diabetes (parents or siblings)
Certain ethic groups have a higher risk of diabetes, including: African American, Native American, Latin American, Asian American, Pacific Islander
Having a history of gestational (pregnancy-related) diabetes or giving birth to a baby which weighed more than 9 pounds
Having a history of hypertension (high blood pressure)
Having a high fasting blood sugar or an impaired glucose tolerance on previous blood tests.
Having Triglycerides (a lab measure of fats in the blood) which are more than 250 mg/dl
Having HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol ) which is less than 35 mg/dL.
Top
What Are the Symptoms Adult Diabetes?
A person might have SOME or NONE of the following diabetes symptoms:
Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Unexplained weight loss
Extreme hunger
Sudden vision changes
Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
Feeling very tired much of the time
Very dry skin
Sores that are slow to heal
More infections than usual.
People who think they might have diabetic symptoms should visit a physician for diagnosis.
Top
Complications of Diabetes
It has many serious complications, which are preventable with proper treatment. These complications include:
Eye disease and blindness. Each year, 12,000–24,000 people become blind because of diabetic eye disease, including diabetic retinopathy. Screening and care could prevent up to 90% of diabetes-related blindness.
Kidney disease. About 38,000 people with diabetes develop kidney failure each year. Treatment to better control blood pressure and blood glucose levels could reduce diabetes-related kidney failure by about 50%.
Diabetic neuropathy. Damage to nerves from high blood sugar may cause numbness, tingling, and paresthesias in the extremities and, less often, debilitating, severe, deep-seated pain and hyperesthesias.
Amputations. About 82,000 people have diabetes-related leg and foot amputations each year. Foot care programs that include regular examinations and patient education could prevent up to 85% of these amputations.
Cardiovascular disease. Heart disease and stroke cause about 65% of deaths among people with diabetes. These deaths could be reduced by 30% with improved care to control blood pressure and blood glucose and lipid levels.
Pregnancy complications. About 18,000 women with preexisting diabetes deliver babies each year, and an estimated 135,000 expectant mothers are diagnosed with gestational diabetes. These women and their babies have an increased risk for serious complications.
Flu- and pneumonia-related deaths. Each year, 10,000–30,000 people with diabetes die of complications from flu or pneumonia. They are roughly three times more likely to die of these complications than people without diabetes.
Top
How Is Diabetes Diagnosed?
It is diagnosed by lab test results plus symptoms. Screening is done routinely, and diabetes without symptoms may be diagnosed based on lab tests alone.
Fasting blood glucose level of greater than 125 mg/dL on two occasions in an adult or child.
An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) may be helpful in diagnosing type 2 DM in patients whose fasting glucose is between 115 and 125 mg/dL (people with "impaired" glucose tolerance) and in those with a clinical condition that might be related to undiagnosed DM (eg, polyneuropathy, retinopathy).
Lab tests that may be used for monitoring diabetes and risk of heart disease include
Hemoglobin A1C, which is a measure of blood sugar control in the previous 1-3 months. This test is an indirect measure of average blood glucose levels.
Fructosamine, which is a measure of blood sugar control within the previous 1-3 weeks. This test is an indirect measure of average blood sugar levels.
Fasting serum insulin, which measures insulin levels in the blood.
Blood lipids: cholesterol, including HDL "good" cholesterol, and LDL "bad" cholesterol, and triglycerides.
Other markers for risk of heart disease, including: cardio CRP, lipoprotein (a), and/or homocysteine.
Top
Conventional Treatment
Oral Antidiabetic Drugs.
Sulfonylureas (e.g glyburide) lower plasma glucose primarily by stimulating insulin secretion.
Biguanides (e.g. Metformin) act by decreasing the liver's glucose production and may improve insulin sensitivity in those who lose weight.
Alpha glucosidase inhibitors ( e. g. Acarbose) delay carbohydrate digestion in the small intestine (by inhibiting enzymews which do this) and subsequent absorption, resulting in less postprandial elevation of blood glucose levels
Thiazolidinediones (e.g. troglitazone ) are insulin-sensitizer drugs that improve insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle and suppress hepatic glucose output. Only used in combination with other medications.
Nonsulfonurea meglitinides (e.g. repaglinide) Similar in action to sulfonureas, but used in poeople with sufa sensitivity.
Insulin.
Medications to manage elevated blood lipids or hypertension are also often used.
Many of the above medications have significant side-effects and/or liver toxicity.
Top
Natural or Alternative Treatment
Natural treatment (or prevention) of diabetes includes many factors. Note: because natural treatment can drastically affect blood sugar levels, you should make these changes only with physician supervision. Your medication needs may change and blood sugar and medication levels must be closely monitored.
Lifestyle. Exercise and weight reduction have been shown to be highly beneficial. Exercise helps reduce weight, lower blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, improve immune system, improve circulation, lower blood pressure, lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, raise HDL ("good") cholesterol, and reduce risk for heart disease.
Diabetes Diet. A diabetic diet will reduce blood sugar, reduce insulin levels, and reduce the need for medications. A diabetic diet plan includes a low glycemic index, low simple carbohydrate, moderate protein, high fiber diet. This diabetic diet also helps to reduce weight, reduce blood pressure and support overall health and energy. (Note: you should never adjust your medications without direct supervision of your physician.).
Education. One of the main principles of naturopathic medicine is education. Your doctor can also provide you with sample diabetic recipes and menus, suggestions for diabetic desserts, and other helpful information.
Nutritional Therapy. There are a variety of nutritional therapies which may be helpful. Nutritional therapies can help to lower blood sugar and insulin levels, reduce cholesterol levels, reduce triglyceride levels, reduce blood pressure, improve energy, and reduce risk of heart disease. Nutritional supplements can also be used to protect your tissues (eyes, kidneys, blood vessels) from the damage of diabetes.
Herbal Therapy. A variety of herbal therapies may be considered. The goal of herbal medicine might include: reduce blood sugar levels, support your immune system, protect your heart, and stabilize and strengthen circulation.
Top
How Can Diabetes Be Prevented?
Diabetes can be prevented. If you have a family history of diabetes, have "impaired" glucose tolerance, or are otherwise at risk for or concerned about diabetes, you should start now with a plan to reduce your risk. Most important are dietary changes which can help to regulate blood sugar and insulin levels. A number of studies have shown that regular physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Nutritional supplementation which supports healthy glucose tolerance may also be recommended.

Empower Yourself With Say As "Eye-Your-veda," Read As "Ayurveda," The Ancient Popular Health Science
- By: Helen Thomas, 2008-03-10
The doshas are a very important concept of ayurveda and a source of confusion for most of my western patients. The question that has been asked to me almost everyday for twenty years, "What is my body type?" This is an essential question and can easily be ascertained by taking the dosha test.
However, basically, dosha means the identifying energy of nervous system , digestive system and the tissues system.
So, the vata dosha is the energy of the nervous system, the pitta dosha is the energy of metabolism and digestion and kapha is the earth like value of tissue.
Now, you ask how do I get a body type out of this? If you are predominant vata dosha it means you exhibit many characteristics that are expression of nervous system and so on with pittq and kapha dosha. Take the dosha test and then read the article on Now that You Have Taken Your Dosha Test. What Next?
I will give you a little warning. Because after taking the dosha test and identified whether you are one dosha over another that does not mean a westerner understands the many ways the word dosha is used in the science of ayurveda.
I would advise for purposes of introduction to ayurveda to use the word as a body type system identifier then as you study this rich science you can expand your understanding on the more penetrating aspects of the science of doshas.
The three doshas, or governing principles, are called vata, pitta, and kapha. When vata is imbalanced insomnia, dry skin, anxiety, and constipation are the most common imbalances. Too much Pitta results in hives, over heating, and hyperacidity. Kapha imbalances are at the bottom of depression and obesity.
Ayurveda recognizes five basic elements, or constituents, to be the smallest components to which anything can be reduced. They are air, space, fire, water, and earth. Everything in nature is composed of these five glorious, mysterious, essential components-including humans. Akasha is the Ayurvedic term for the gaseous form of matter.
SPACE (sometimes called ether) is the expanse or area in which air is contained and through which it moves.
FIRE is the radiant form of matter and is needed for any process of transformation, or "digestion." WATER is used to describe the liquid form of matter.
EARTH is the solid form of matter and is responsible for groundedness and solidity. The five elements, in infinite combinations and proportions, are the basis of all life-forms and things, with three forces to keep the elements in the right relationship with one another. The three forces, the doshas, govern all the functions of the body, mind, and universal consciousness. When vata is imbalanced insomnia, dry skin, anxiety, and constipation are the most common imbalances. Too much Pitta results in hives. Kapha imbalances are at the bottom of depression.
The three doshas, or governing principles, are called vata, pitta, and kapha. Each dosha has its own set of characteristics, which arise out of the elements from which they are made. This includes the physical and emotional characteristics and personality traits of people, as well as of everything else.
For example there are vata, pitta, and kapha kinds of flowers, people, houses, music, foods, trees, birds, and bees, as well as times of day and seasons. Every person (and thing) contains all three doshas.
However, the proportion varies according to the individual, and usually one or two doshas predominate. Within each person the doshas are continually interacting with one another and with the doshas in all of nature.
This interplay among the fundamental forces and components explains why people can have much in common but also have an endless variety of individual differences in the way they behave and respond to their environment. Ayurveda recognizes that different foods, tastes, colors, and sounds affect the doshas in different ways.
For example very hot and pungent spices aggravate pitta; but cold, light foods such as salads calm it down. This ability to affect the doshas is the underlying basis for Ayurvedic practices and therapies.

Alternative Medicine
– Healing Comes from Within
By: Peter Zeischegg
Many people don't feel good, but don't really know why. They complain of “unexplained” symptoms such as chronic fatigue, over-weight, depression, memory loss, fibromyalgia, food cravings, headaches, muscle and joint pain, arthritis, intractable back pain, heartburn, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, mood swings, rashes, itching, allergies, attention deficit, dyslexia, hearing and vision loss, balance problems, high blood pressure, insomnia, ...the list goes on. Standard medical tests show little or nothing. Many of my patients have reported over the years that their MD's either ignore these symptoms or give vague explanations such as:
It is because of your age
You just have to live with it
It's all in your head
It is stress
It is genetic
It is...
What this really means: nobody knows how to determine the cause for all these symptoms.
Allopathic Medicine
Over the past decades traditional western allopathic medicine has come up with extraordinary number of pharmaceutical drugs in order to fight an extraordinary number of diseases. It seemed in the past, and it still appears that way today, that if we only could come up with the right chemical compound we could eventually conquer and eliminate any disease under the sun. This quest for the "Silver Bullet" continues.
Chronic Illness
Somehow, we seem to have missed the mark. With the amount of medication consumed in the USA one would assume that we are the healthiest people on the planet. However, we have more chronic diseases than ever. Even though our life span has been increased, our quality of life has not. Healthy aging eludes many of us. Diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disorders, allergies, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, depression abound.
Alternative Medicine: No Drugs – No surgery
Alternative Medicine - a different paradigm
The power to heal lies within YOU.
YOUR Alternative Medicine practitioner – YOUR coach, your teacher
YOU must take full responsibility
YOU must be willing to CHANGE
Alternative Medicine - There are No Magic Pills
Who we are is the sum total of our genetic strengths and weaknesses, our upbringing, our education, our environment, the quality of our food, the quality of our water, the quality of the air we breathe, the quality of our thoughts, our emotions, our relationships to one another, our capacity to give and receive love and affection, the amount of bad impressions we take in from horrible TV shows, the amount of ever increasing violence we are exposed to in the movies and/or in real life, the functioning of our brain and nervous system, our organs, our organ systems...
Alternative Medicine - The only Question is WHY
The only relevant question to ask: WHY?
Why do you have these symptoms?
Why is your body malfunctioning?
These are of course the most difficult questions to answer.
Alternative Medicine is concerned with the functioning of the entire human being in the context of his or her life. Genetics and life style are part of the equation. Illness and disease are not seen as independent realities that are explainable by being given a name and treated as such. Illness is rather viewed as an expression of some underlying imbalance and breakdown of normal function.
Alternative Medicine - Illness and Premature Aging - a Call for Change!
Biological aging is related to a noticeable decline in normal function. Function of the brain declines with age, so does digestive function, and many other glandular and hormonal functions. Aging can be accelerated by various life style choices:
Smokers have higher risk of age-related diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
People who consume excessive amounts of alcohol have increased risk of liver and cardiovascular problems.
Poor quality/junk food diets that are excessive in carbohydrates (calories) and low in protein and other essential nutrients lead to obesity, diabetes, digestive stress, heart problems and frequent illness in general.
“Recreational” drug users/addicts - you see this in their complexion, their posture, the evidence of their mental decline.
Use and over-use of pharmaceutical drugs – ALL have side effects.
Lack of physical activity and our sedentary life styles decreases brain function.
Inadequate digestive function leads to malnutrition, which in turn affects all aspects of our lives.
Antibiotic use destroys the normal bacterial flora in your intestines.
Antibiotic use causes Candida overgrowth and immune system suppression, with devastating consequences for your health.
Chronic stress accelerates aging
Shallow breathing and/or polluted air leads to oxygen deficiency.
Oxygen starvation leads to cell malfunction, especially in your heart and brain.
Mercury exposure from silver amalgam (mercury) fillings in your mouth is very toxic to your brain.
Environmental toxins in air and water accelerate aging.
Alternative Medicine - Medicine of the Future
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease." Thomas A. Edison
We can slow or even reverse our biological aging through intelligent changes in lifestyle, environment, and nutrition:
It is estimated that making appropriate changes can positively influence more than 75 percent of our health and life expectancy after age 40!
The goal of Alternative Medicine is to optimize health through
Chiropractic Neurology
Removing structural stress form spine and joints
Diet and Nutrition
Digestive Support
Homeopathic/Isopathic remedies
Detoxification
Balancing body ph
Improved oxygenation and deeper breathing
Increased physical activity
Brain exercises
Color and light therapies
And more
Health is not seen as merely the absence of disease, but rather as an expression of vitality and well-being. An ever increasing number of healthcare professionals are becoming aware of the shortcomings and failures of allopathic medicine.
Alternative Medicine is slowly coming of age and is the true Medicine of the Future.

Antioxidant Supplement Information
- By: Juliet Cohen, 2008-03-02
Antioxidant Supplements provides security for many of the system's significant systems by combating available radicals and oxidant molecules which harm cells, DNA, and better fats and cholesterol. Antioxidants interact with and stabilise available radicals and may forbid some of the harm available radicals otherwise might induce. Some favorite antioxidants include lycopene, vitamin C, grape seed, pycnogenol and SOD. Antioxidants are classified into two comprehensive divisions, depending on whether they are soluble in water or in lipids (hydrophobic. In general, water-soluble antioxidants respond with oxidants in the cubicle cytoplasm and the blood plasma.
While lipid-soluble antioxidants protect cell membranes from lipid peroxidation. These compounds may be synthesized in the body or obtained from the diet. The different antioxidants are present at a wide scope of concentrations in body fluids and tissues, with some such as glutathione or ubiquinone mostly present within cells, while others such as uric acid are more evenly distributed. Some compounds contribute to antioxidant defense by chelating transition metals and preventing them from catalyzing the production of free radicals in the cell. In general, antioxidant supplements have not been shown to be useful as performance enhancers.
The one exception to this is vitamin E which has been shown to be helpful in athletes exercising at higher altitudes. A placebo controlled survey done on mountaineers demonstrated less available extremist harm and fall in anaerobic brink in those athletes supplemented with vitamin E. Although hard to extrapolate, this finding suggests that supplementation with vitamin E might be advantageous in those triathletes who are adapting to high elevations. Vitamin An is a significant food in maintaining cubicle membrane unity. It too plays a significant character in appropriate ivory establishment, replica and imagination.
As an antioxidant nutrient or antioxidant supplementation, is in an unusual stance to "scavenge" aqueous peroxyl radicals before these harmful substances have an opportunity to damage the lipids. It works along with vitamin E, a fat-soluble natural antioxidant, and the enzyme glutathione peroxidase to halt available extremist string reactions. Vitamin C can heighten the system's opposition to a variety of diseases, including contagious disorders and many types of cancer. It strengthens and protects the exempt structure by stimulating the action of antibodies and exempt structure cells. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxident vitamin that exists in eight distinct forms.

Vitamins For You & Your Family!
- By: Juliet Cohen, 2008-03-02
Vitamins are an integral part of our lives. Vitamins have been proven to protect us from a number of different diseases. Many of the beneficial effects of vitamins on our health have been linked to their antioxidant properties. Vitamins found in supreme antioxidant are vitamins C, E and A. These vitamins work in concert with each other. Vitamin A has many unique benefits but mostly is a very effective antioxidant. Vitamin A, also called retinol, helps your eyes adjust to light changes when you come in from outside and also helps keep your eyes, skin and mucous membranes moist. Vitamin A mostly comes from animal foods.
But some plant-based foods supply beta-carotene, which your body then converts into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is very important for maintaining good vision. A vitamin A (retinol) deficiency can cause night blindness (even total blindness) and a greatly lowered resistance to infection.Vitamin B12 has very important benefits because a deficiency can lead to serious health complications such as nerve damage, weak muscles, depression, memory problems, fatigue, anemia, and stunted growth in children. Other benefits include the formation and regeneration of red blood cells. Vitamin B1 works with other B vitamins to release the energy we get from food.
Vitamin C antioxidant which helps to protect against free radicals, fight infection, boost iron absorption, and maintain healthy skin, blood vessels, bones and gums. Vitamin C has many benefits you may already be aware of including a pivotal role in the production of collagen, an ability to help the healing of wounds. Vitamin B6 also helps to maintain a healthy nervous system and produce mood-regulating serotonin. Also needed for the formation of haemoglobin in red blood cells and antibodies that help fight infection. Vitamin E is protects of cell membranes as well as maintaining healthy skin, immunity, nerves, muscles and red blood cells.
Vitamin K has good benefits such as blood clotting and helping to strengthen bones and counter osteoporosis. Vitamin K also helps to build and maintain strong bones. Vitamin B12 is required for the normal activity of nerve cells, and works with folate and vitamin B6 to lower blood levels of homocysteine, a chemical in the blood that is thought to contribute to heart disease. Thiamin (B1) involved in the release of energy from carbohydrate. It is important for the brain and nerves, which use glucose for their energy needs. Folate involved in the formation of blood cells. Folate reduces the risk of Neural tube defects in babies.

Learn More About 10 Tips to Improve Your Health
- By: Paul Zayer, 2008-03-03
1) You have to pay good attention to your body and listen to it. As you are training it is easy to become preoccupied with the repetitions you are doing, or the time you took to exercise. Leave your watch at home and walk or slow down when your body start hurting.
2) You have to eat a varied diet to improve your health. Your minimum objective should be five fruits and vegetables every day. Your health will improve if you eat at least five different sorts of fruit, then any vegetables will be a bonus.
3) Take a complete day off from exercise once in a while. It doesn't have to be every week, but when you are tired and you keep doing extra training, it may have a detrimental result on your health and fitness. As much as exercise, you become fitter and healthier through rest.
4) Try to put a limit on the amount of supplements you take. The right amounts can actually be absorbed by changing the diet without the risks involved by taking a dietary supplement. Consult a professional dietician. Many sprinters and power athletes, for example, take creatine supplements because it gives them a legal edge. There is a risk, though, as it is possible that they have been contaminated by prohibited substances. This is a risk to your fitness health, and a risk financially if you are a professional athlete.
5) If you minimize the number of tablets that you take, your health will improve. Paracetamol may seem okay, but you will be surprised how often a simple headache can be relieved by drinking water, having something to eat or relaxing in a quiet room.
6) You will improve your health by stretching more. Your muscles get shorter through goodexercise, and if you never stretch you will get injured. Before the main workout, one method is to warm up slowly first, then spend several minutes stretching. You also need to stretch after exercise.
7) If you are exercising more, you have to keep hydrated. This means drinking water and sports drinks if you are sweating a lot. You lose minerals in your body while sweating. Five glasses of water per day is also suggested, but if you are working out, you need to drink more than this. But keep in mind that it can be just as harmful to drink too much as too little, so do not get carried away.
8) Do your exercises with other individuals. You will meet new friends, and your fitness will improve if you have other people to motivate you.
9) Do not become too competitive as this may damage your health. It's good to receive motivation from other people, but you should only be competing against yourself. You could become injured if you try too hard to keep up with another person.
10) Have fun! And if you do because you stick to your exercise program, your health will improve. Here you go. 10 easy tips to improve your health. As you can see, getting healthy is not very complicated to do. Start with the basics and once you are used to them you can refine your habits. Health is a way of life not a fad.
